SEO: Here’s How I Converted A Negative Response

If you are sending standard quotations or templates to a positives response for search engine optimization queries, then BEWARE about how much they can damage? I was really surprised when I see that the standard template had “Old Practices” & was never updated from years in one of my organization. Still, I was succeeded in converting by providing some real & fact full answers, Here is how –

Quality Directory Submissions
Client: “These are horrible and a ten year old technique with zero value.”
Counter Answer: “We do only Yahoo Directory (if client pays) & DMoz.”
Article Marketing
Client: “These also have been disqualified by Google especially since most links either get stripped or get no followed.”

Counter Answer: “Will work if done on Good quality sites, Just don’t do it in excess, our standard criteria is PR5 & Above, doesn’t matter if it gives “nofollow” or “dofollow” it will still help.”

Guest Posting
Client: “A waste of time since most bloggers do not have the time to discern what is an honest request and what is spam. I delete thousands of spam a week.”

Counter Answer: “Still a great way to earn links, just need to do a guest posting with purpose with a great & engaging content. In order to be on the safer side, we have set a good criteria to do guest posting that involves, PR, PA, DA, Alexa Rank, SEMrush, (depending upon what client is looking for) etc. If you are following all these criteria & writing a great content, this can do a miracle for you.”

Note: Most of the guest posting efforts under this criteria might be paid & you have to pay if there is a sponsored fee for publishing.

Social Bookmarking
Client: “Completely useless and gives no link relevance whatsoever.”

Counter Answer: We use below platforms -
  • Stumble Upon
  • Reddit
  • Delicious
  • Diigo
  • Scoop it

All these are good enough
Search Engine Submission
Client: “You never submit to search engines, it is stupid since only three matter.”

Counter Answer: “Do only for newer websites & if sites are running from indexing issues.”
Video Distribution & Submission
Client: “Links are no followed.”

Counter Answer: “Again as I said it doesn’t matter with nofollow or dofollow links, as long as your promotions is engaging consumers, you are on the right way. We just need to focus on sharing great & engaging contents.”
Classified Submission
Client: “Horrible conversion and no followed.”

Counter Answer: “We should do it depending upon the business, if they are selling services, packages, products, can generate leads & we have seen this.”
RSS Feed Distribution
Client: “Irrelevant after panda.”

Counter Answer: “Do only for blogs, not for websites.”
Press Release
Client: “These are terrible, every single site that picks up press release attaches no follow, waste of money.”

Counter Answer: “Should do only as a PR, if the business has going through certain updates or new sections, we can still use this technique.”
Blog Post
Client: “Unless its on your blog, showing fresh content it does no good if the blog does not have the same theme or content topic.”

Counter Answer: “True, our focus will be to post great content & increase traffic month over month by targeting the right audience.”
Page Title & Meta Descriptions/Footer Optimization/Image Alt Tags or Optimization
Client: “The title tags have already been changed. Changing or adding more links in the header or footer will not bring more traffic, neither does alt attributes. The game has changed significantly. We are focusing on adding content to our pages, this takes time, any link building activity that is “easy” is useless. I cannot think of any reason to use your company if these are the recommendations.”

Counter Answer: “Yes, it won’t bring more traffic, but allows a user to stay for longer if your on page is good, it should not be a messy. Also helps in CTR, if your Page Titles & Meta Descriptions are well written, can bring you good CTR.”

Key Take Away: What I tried to do is agree with client’s feedback wherever justified & counter answer wherever opportunity exists. Next is what, he had a Skype conversation with our BD Manager & given us the project that lasts for more than 6 months & was there when I left the organization.

But this is not the “key take away”, the ideal key take away is to always work on custom proposals. Only provide what client is looking for or interested in. That’s the optimum solution to improve conversions.
